How To Install Piston Rings

Today, we are going to show you how to install piston rings we have a top piston ring  which is your compression ring and the second ring which is partially compression and does mostly oil control now some people will spiral the rings on they start I'm going to put the ring in  like this and you spiral and that's one  method of putting the rings on.


Some  manufacturers don't like you to do it  that way  that is a method of installing them this  is the way I like to do it of course  your dots going to go up I'll start with  the second ring I'm going to use a  piston ring expander.

Put the ring right here and you just expand it out just far  enough where it'll go and top the piston  into the groove one of the good things  about using a custom ring expander as  opposed to spiraling as when you spiral  sometimes it actually will bend the ring a little bit and they won't seal very  good in the ring bores .

So let's put the  top ring on and make sure and put your dot up and you just put it over just enough to get it in the groove and  that's it .
Off course you want to make  sure and offset your your gaps before  you put it in to the bore  that's it that's how you install piston  rings that's it for now
